The prettiest hike I have done in Salt Lake City

Back in the fall I was determined to catch the fleeting fall colors of Utah. I saw them for a brief period last year when I hiked to Bell's Canyon Lower Falls, but not much else.  Boy was I about to be blown away.

It was prime time for the colors, and I decided to hike Gobbler's Knob in Big Cottonwood Canyon after getting a recommendation from my manager. It was about 9am as I drove up the canyon, excited to try another new hike. I had my gear all set, including my camera with my fairly new lens.

I reached the trailhead, parked my car, and began my hike. Wow the first mile and a half was strenuous! Overall the hike gains 3000ft of elevation over about 7.3 miles. I would say about 1000 of that elevation gain was right in the beginning. Needless to say, my legs were feeling the burn. It was already beginning to be well worth the exertion though. I was climbing up into some beautiful aspen groves.

The sun peeked over the mountains and illuminated the trees like nothing I had ever seen before. It was like the trees were on fire with a yellow color! I kept moving along the trail and the views were just as emmaculate the remainder of the way.

After reaching the top, I was pretty tired. Still, I thought to myself "This is the prettiest hike I have ever done in Utah, and maybe ever have done in my life." It may not be the best hike ever, but the timing, the weather, and the colors all combined to make one incredible Saturday morning that I won't soon forget.
