What is your niche?
If you google the word niche the second definition that shows up says:
A specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.
Niches are more important than one may realize. They are were you can succeed and where you could perform the best. What would you say your niche or niches are? Where can you provide additional value that others cannot?
Personally, I have been thinking a lot about niches recently. People say to succeed in YouTube, it helps to have a niche where you can build a dedicated following. You can see examples from YouTubers all over. One of my favorite creators, Ali Abdaal, is currently one of YouTube's top "productivity gurus" as he explores ways to help people live happier and more meaningful lives. He got his start on YouTube as a med school student. He shared tips and tricks on getting through med school and built a really loyal following before eventually pivoting to productivity and more.
Now I don't focus too heavily on the numbers. I really do enjoy making videos just on its own, but it would be really cool to build a community of followers. So what is my niche then? I make videos focused around my hobbies which include traveling and outdoor activities like hiking, backpacking, and skiing. That is quite a saturated market. So what makes me special?
Well after some brainstorming I realized that my current spot in life as a recent college graduate sets me apart! This is my first full year where I will be making a a full-time income with the freedom to do whatever I want on weekends and holidays. I can explore all these new adventures and share my experiences and learnings with anyone else that is trying to get into similar interests. I especially will relate to recently grads and students about to graduate. Interestingly, my inexperience with living on my own and adventuring may be my greatest asset. I decided to start a brand new YouTube series. Check out the trailer!
